I got word late last night that John Storm was very seriously injured late Sunday afternoon in an unusual accident involving his motor home. He is in critical condition in a Lincoln, Nebraska hospital. I don't know many details expect to say that his injuries are life threatening and involved major surgeries. Apparently, he was on the way home from the high school shoot at Doniphan, Ne. I heard this morning that he was stable. If someone posted earlier, I didn't see it.
Bruce Bowen
Well, he's always treated me very fairly and his jackets are (IMO) the best.
I am praying for his complete recovery. I hope others will join me, whether they know John or not.
Bob
I also heard about Johns terrible accident. I was told his injuries are horrific. Our thoughts and prayers are with John and his loved ones right now. John has a special place in our family. When my son Johnny was very young John handed him a fully engraved Silver Seitz to shoot. My son shot it really well and John would encourage my son to have me get him a Seitz. I gave in and bought him one and when I complained to John about what it cost me that day he handed him that damn Seitz... John would just howl with laughter !!
Ed and John Grubbs
Bruce, thanks for posting. I hadn't heard about the accident. I just talked to him yesterday at the High School shoot.
My thoughts and prayers with John.
Steve Elliott
Best wishes for a complete recovery for John. I was at the Spring Grand one year in Phoenix and it started pouring rain. I had forgotten my rain gear at home. I went to buy some from John and he was out. He loaned me his personal jacket and pants to wear!
Steve Nunley

Praying for a full and speedy recovery.

It is always a blast to hear "John Storm" stories. During the summer and vacations from college i always stop out and see John for an afternoon. We go get lunch and talk about what has taken place in my absence. haha. My favorite story i like to share is that when i was still in high school i was going to the ECTC shoots and a few ATA shoots that summer and he asked me if i wanted to take a few coats with me and sell them for him. i jumped at the opportunity. On the way back from lunch one day we made a detour by way of Lincoln and went to the Fort Western Wear store. He said to me, "If you’re going to sell my coats you need a Black Western Hat"(just like John's). So we went in and he found the nicest hat they had. He said it’s perfect and we will take it. I said John i can’t afford this and he just smiled and said it’s your graduation present. I will keep going back to visit my friend in the hospital until he is better and i cant wait to go back out to lunch with him! I think that if any of you have a "John Story" like Ed and Steve, i think John will get a good chuckle out of reading these once he recovers. God Bless
J.D.
Best wishes to him for a full and fast recovery. I just purchased a jacket and pair of pants from him. Top quality stuff. Folks at the club are always asking me where I got the jacket. Sorry to hear of this, nnd hoping you're back on your feet real soon.
My thoughts and prayers go out to John for a speedy and full recovery. John has been a very good friend of mine and the entire trapshooting community for years. I have so many stories to tell about John this forum does not offer enough room. Whenever I experienced any problems or issues with my shooting performance I could always depend on John to provide good advice and a pep talk to get me back on track. John you are the BEST!!!!!!!!!!
Bob Feltman
Prayers going out for John. I have Storm jackets, best I've seen. Great jacket, great guy!
Any updates, please?

John's youngest daughter called my father saturday night, it happened on the way back from Donaphin saturday afternoon, yes his injuries are horrible, what a tragic thing. I have known John my entire life, I do not remember a time when I did not know him, I spent lots of time as a kid running around with his kids at gun clubs, while traveling with my Dad, Dad and Stanley O went to the hospital yesterday and saw the family, Lisa was still coming in from Chicago. The prognosis is not good at all from what I have been told, I have heard nothing more today, I think Dad is going to try to see him, they have been good freinds for 50 years. It is my understanding he pulled over and got out of the motorhome somewhere around Goehner, something was wrong, a mirror or something, and the motothome ran over him, he was taken by rescue squad to York, then lifeflighted to Lincoln, it is my understanding he has already had one leg removed, possibly both at this point, it was being discussed, his pelvis is crushed and has severe internal injuries. My heart and prayers, as I know all of your's are too, go out to John and his family. I really do not know what else to say.

Prayers going to John and his family.

John and his family are in our prayers. Fr. Stammitti was at my house yesterday when I heard the news and I know he to is praying for John.
There are no replacements for people like John Storm and it would be tragic to lose him.
Gary Riecke
Thoughts and prayers to John and Family. He is a very likeable guy and always welcomed a sit down talk. Terry
UPDATE:
I just talked to Bev and she said John is doing good and he is stable. He has been in surgery since 11 this morning just to clean wounds. His heart and other organs are working good from what the tests show. Bev and the family thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers.
J.D.
I have not had the pleasure of meeting him, but absolutely love his shooting coats and vests. I'd own no other. God bless him and his family. We wish him a speedy recovery.
Hope John recovers, I have been going to call him for months just to b.s. and now this happens. Don't put off things with friends , life changes to quick. Get well John so I can call soon and wear you down on the phone, Norm Gilmoure (gota Hav It) Thanks for all the great coats.
Just heard this news and our thoughts and prayers to John and family. Glad to hear from Bev John is good and stable.
What terrible news about a great guy, I sold his coats for several years and never had a complaint. The best part about selling his coats was talking to him about the order, we fussed and cussed for at least an hour before we ever came to an agreement, My prayers are with John and his family, God Bless.
Buddy
Sorry to hear this. My thoughts are with John. Dave Bishop
Prayers for John and Family!
Thoughts and prayers for John. He is a great guy and makes excellent coats/pants!

Hang strong John.. the last word sounds positive. Peace and rest for your family as you recover.
Guy B.
John Storm my prayers have been said for you and a fast recovery.
Gary Bryant Dr.longshot
Hello, I have within the last hour spoken with John's two youngest, there is nothing positive to report, other than they say the doctors tell them he is not in pain, at this time that is most likely the best thing we can all pray for. There are no more real details about the incident. My conversation with them reminded me even more about all the good times I have shared with John and his family.
Thoughts and Prayers, 870shooter

I ordered a coat from John two weeks ago. What a nice guy, I was confused about what to order and he spent an hour on the phone helping me and talking about shooting.
My prayers for him and his family!

Prayers on the way, I have one of his coats- it now means more to me than I can say

OMG. John Storm, I pray that the Lord will be with you day and night. You've been a great friend to the trapshooting community and you need to know that all of us are praying for you. We're also praying for your family through these very difficult times. May the doctors and nurses give you the very best care they are capable of. And may the God of us all reach down and hold you in His hand.
Gene Batchelar Wheaton, IL
I'd like to 2nd what Gene just said. I've prayed for John and his family today and have been searching all day for the right words. Nobody could have said it better! My fondest memories of the Grand American include any few minutes that I got to spend shooting the breeze with John. He is one of the finest Gentlemen I've known.
So sad to hear this. He is such a great guy and a man of his word. Hope for the best and my prays are with him. Matt Stevsnon
I am so sorry to hear about this accident. John is such a special person, always friendly and helpful. A true gentleman. I hope with all the prayers being sent for him, he will pull thru this tragic accident and heal.
Our thoughts and prayers are with John and his family.

My prayers for the family also. I don't know John but have heard his name often since joining the shooting sports.
Any news on John today. Trevor Dawe
John, The shooters are counting on you! As usual, your spot on vendor row for the 2013 Spring Grand at Tucson Trap and Skeet is reserved for you. May you have a speedy recovery. Randy Kalal

We are trying very hard to keep a positive and optimistic attitude as John is showing us he wants to live and is fighting to do so. We are all grateful for the good wishes, stories and prayers. As he can hear us talk to him, I'll be printing this out so I can read all the well wishes to him which is sure to make him smile inside. If you want to leave your name, so I can tell him that, it would be nice since I don't know many of the screen names.
If you or anyone you know has an outstanding coat order, I am hoping to be able to deliver those eventually. Currently I can't get to the information needed, but hopefully I will soon.
Thank you again and please keep him in your prayers.
Beverly
John stay strong. This is from a skeet shooter at LT&S. I have moved away but do know the times ther with you and Craig Shinhoste not spleed right but owell and Jim Gelline again not right were the best. You are a good man and you eill pull thru. Matt Stevenson and Dad say keep Strong Bill Stevenson
Beverly, tell John that Trevor Dawe 4XL from Calgary Alberta is in his corner and wishing him all the best.
I can still remember being in awe watching John in a big shoot off (actually several over the years) at the Colorado State Shoot. Yes he was a CO resident then. He had his Lujic Mono gun and was one of the toughest I have ever seen in a shoot-off. But, it went beyond being a great shot, at that stage in my life no one knew me from Adam, but I was always trying to talk to the top shots and learn something. Some would stop and some would not.
I asked him a question and John stopped and talked to me in the clubhouse at the old DMTC (Denver) for longer than he should have answering questions with no limit on time. This was in 1973 or 74.
That meant a lot to me as a newbie and says a lot about John’s character.
I have felt like John has been one of my true friends since.
Hang in there John and know that all us Wyomingites are praying for you. Phil
Nice post Phil. I always thought a John Storm coat was the coolest looking coat for a trapshooter to own. I wish him the best and a speedy recovery.

We have never met John however, feel like we know him through TS.com. We wish him all the best and a speedy recovery.

Over the years I have bought 4 or 5 coats and suits from John and he has always been a great person to deal with and he really stands behind his products. My prayers for a full and quick recovery go to John and his family. The whole shooting community wishes you well John.

Every year John would make blue trap vests for the 2nd year Marian High Girls Trap Team shooters, personally fitted for each shooter. This year, on the day that they were delivered, ALMOST ALL the girls that got their new Storm vest shot personal bests at the Fremont shoot that day. Now I'm not saying that John's vests are magic, but it did give those girls a sense of pride that translated onto the score sheets. And as the girls graduate high school, those vests are treasured more than we can ever know. Good Luck there John, and keep up the fight. We all need you. david uden Omaha
John,
We are lifting you up in prayer to the Lord, who is able to do what seems impossible to man. God bless you with healing in your body, soul, mind and spirit. I pray that the Lord will send his angels around you day and night to stand watch over you and keep you safe. He will give you his perfect peace that goes beyond our understanding. I pray that each day you will see a change for the better.
puablo/Jeff Philipbar
Beverly, please tell John we are thinking of him and sending all of our positive energy his way. I still remember my first John Storm "outfit"....in fact, I still have it! Keep fighting John...and Bevery, you are in our thoughts also.
Betty and Roger
As Dave said in an earlier post, in 2005 John made custom vests for our trap team. They won the Nebraska State Championship that year and went on to place two squads in the top 10 at the SCTP Nationals.
Every year since then the girls look forward to earning their vests. The day the vests arrive is a very special day.
Hey John. Just letting you know that we are all still praying for your recovery. Bob, who takes care of the vendors at the Missouri State shoot just called me to confirm my vendor spot. He did not know about your situation and I informed him. I am sure the prayer chain multiplied after we got off the phone. He now knows your situation and I am sure he will keep in reserve your prime vendor spot there upon your return. May it be speedy. You met my wife at the Nebraska High School shoot. She was the one whom had the trailer doing the custom embroidery that you were happy to see. At least she thinks it was you. If you ever need anything delivered to a shoot we are going to I would be happy do deliver it for you. Anything to help you out as you have given to others. God Bless. Terry vonSeggern aka Leadminer, Fremont Nebraska.
Terry, once you've met John, you don't forget him.
RickN. That is a fact, one of kind, and what great guy, and I have heard some good news too, he is still stable, he is requiring less blood, the doctors will do more work cleaning up wounds tomorrow, prayers are being answered, hang in there John, we are with you. Hang in there to the family too.
Thoughts and Prayers 870shooter
I have met and know John but my wife has never met him but now i can show her a pic. Yes he is unforgettable.
I just want to thank everyone again for the warm out-pouring of love, support and prayer. It means so very much to us! Johns injuries are things that are just going to take time to heal, so we know it's a long road ahead, but so far the Lord has answered our prayers and progress has been slow but steady.
Thank you again, and please continue to hold him in your prayers.
Beverly
I imagine a lot of us that haven't joined the thread have John in our prayers also. I was glad to hear the good news from Beverly about him. Ken U
Beverly, tell John that there are a lot of people praying for him and wish him well.
Tell him to keep his eye's open for some nice Ithaca Single Barrel Traps and that I'm still waiting for my bright blue coat. He'll know who its coming from.

Beverly, I just wanted you to let John know that I pulled out one of his vests that I use to shoot in years ago and I won single and doubles on Sat. and doubles singles and broke a 96 in the handicap in todays handicap winning the event. This should make him happy. Not much for praying but I do wish him the best. Trevor Dawe Calgary.

Trevor that's great! And to be perfectly honest, I'm guessing John would be much happier to hear about the winning and the great scores than the prayers :) Thank you for the kind words and wishes.I will be letting him know!

There are 69 posts above this one. But when you leave this thread, look at the number of times this thread was viewed. It's approaching 10,000 times. That's a huge number for Trapshooters.com. That gives you just a hint as to the number of folks that are concerned about John and your family. We don't all know just the right thing to say, but you should all know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers.
God bless.

Has anyone heard anymore about Johns condition?
John Storm, what can be said about this man? When my partner and I, Craig Duda who passed away in 2005, were just starting to get into the business of selling Shooting Coats, he allowed us to sell his coats and vests and was forever educating us in retail. Later on, Craig decided to make a coat of our own and John was happy for us. We did make our own coats and were in competition with John Storm! Now really, he had had the best coat, pants and vests for years, but he always encouraged us and we remained friends. We remained friends through it all and had many good laughs over the business. Beverly, tell John that I am praying for him and that if not for his generosity in educating Craig and I, we would never have had the pleasurable 10 years of vending that unhappily ended with Craig's passing. You are the best John and a very strong man with great integrity, gifted with that of gab and we love you. Stay strong and get well for your family and for all of us shooters and people who love and respect you. My best to you, Beverly, stay by his side as you always have and God help us, John will recover. Janet Fritch of CJ Enterprises, retired, and the late Craig Duda.

Beverly: As I write this my daughter is preparing for her high school graduation party (and I am in hiding). I saw that she has displayed, in all their glory, her high school shooting awards, AND her blue John Storm shooting vest. John's work product means more, to more people, than you can imagine! I hope that John is gettting stronger by the day. dju

I write this sincerely with tears rolling down my cheeks. Sympathy to John's family, friends and Beverly, trapshooting will never be the same for me at any club without seeing the "Storm" tent across from me. How he stood there and measured the shooters that came to him with all sorts of ideas and he listened intently and made them what they wanted in record time. I'll never forget that black hat and that certain way he had of walking down the trap line as if he truly belonged there which he did. He was a great shooter, a fine gentleman, and a great great friend. Rest in peace and maybe Craig will wave and cheer as you join him and the other shooters who had gone before you, John.
Janet Fritch, Ohio
Very sorry to hear of John's passing. condolences to his family Jim Butler

In ones life you meet some good people and then there are some great people. John Storm was one of the great people, may he rest in peace. Joe Miller
Martin and I send our sincere condolences. He was a friend to Martin, and I only met him last year, although I have a Storm Jacket that Martin got me for my birthday in 2007. He was as nice as everyone told me he was. I will remember his big smile. When Martin comes home from work, I am sure he will post, too.
My condolences to the Storm Family. Dave Bishop
God Bless him, and all he left behind. There are so many who knew him, and so many who knew of him. He was a Gentleman and a very good person to me. Sincerely, Dean DeBow
John, you will be sorely missed by all of your friends and shooters who bought your coats and vests. May you rest in peace, my friend. I will keep your family and Bev in my prayers, knowing that you are in a much better place. God Bless.
This is a sad day as John was really one of the greats in our trapshooting family.
He will surly be missed...
John was a friend for many years. He is one of the people who put much more into trapshooting than he took out. The shoots will be a little less without Stormy there but I will still go and remember him along with some of the others that aren't here with us. I like to think that John, Tommy and a few others that have gone on ahead are setting around working on some project or shooting scores like they once did. I'll bet all the guns are engraved with gold there.
jim brown
Beverly, I didn't know John but certainly know the STORM jacket. I hope all the wonderful memories you have in your heart help you get through this horrible time and you keep the memories alive with the stories people are sharing with you. My heart goes out to you.
I am truly sorrowed to here of John’s passing. He was a great man who will be missed by many. I wish the family the best in their time of mourning. Remember, he would not want you to be saddened, but to live your lives as fully as he did. Rest in peace John, Liz and I will truly miss you.
Carville & Elizabeth Evering Maryland
Sorry to hear this very sad news, I met John during my first Grand American in 2001. I had heard about his famous coat and finally purchased one from the man in black, what a wonderful experience. Throughout the years whenever John was at a shoot we would visit and it was always great to see him. We would like to wish the family our deepest condolences. Andy Hall
John Storm...one of the greats in the shooting world! Sincere condolances to friends and family.
milt
One of my favorite John Storm sayings...This damn gun doesn't shoot high enough ! The first time John explained to me how to bend a barrel..When he would get ready to leave the gun club, I would ask him what was he going to do ? He would reply..I'm going to buy a chicken breast for my dog..John's dogs were NOT underfed !! He would shoot a gun that wasn't engraved but I'm sure he didn't like it. No one like him !! Ed Grubbs
I am very saddened by this news.I had the pleasure of meeting John a couple of years a go and purchased a coat from him.I saw him at some shoots and he always remembered me by name.It was truly an honor to meet John Storm. It is very obvois that he was a great person and will be truly missed. David J Janousek
Our condolances to you Beverly, and the rest of the Storm Family. When we go out to shoot, we will proudly take the line wearing our Storm coats and remember the man who sold them to us. God Bless.
Doug and Carol
I always enjoyed sitting with John listening to all of his stories of past shoots, wins, and most important to him, all the wonderful people he met. He always told me how much of a thrill it was to meet someone new and then sell them a coat. He will always live on and be remebered in the stories we share and his coats that we wear. My condolences to you Bev and the Storm family.
J.D.
I am so sorry to hear this. I wore my 12-year-old John Storm coat just a couple of hours ago, not knowing it would be the last time I would deal with such a "straight shooter." John made me a coat in 2000, and it was too tight under the arms. I called him about it and he said "No problem, I'll have another one out to you asap." The new coat arrived quickly and fit perfect. I asked him what I should do with the first coat and he said I could keep it, but I felt uncomfortable doing that and sent it back. I always remembered the quality workmanship and integrity he displayed throughout that transaction. What a loss - our hearts and prayers go out to John's family! Jennifer Leach
So Sorry to hear this. RIP John
Diddos, diddos, diddos. To everything said about John. Rest in peace. Terry
I was sincerely saddened to hear of John's passing. The entire trapshooting community has lost a great friend and a true gentleman. I will always remember the quality time I shared with John, and every momemt a person spent with John was quality time. To know John Storm was a true honor.
Bev, I will keep you and the entire Storm family in my thoughts and prayers during this time of sorrow.
Bob Feltman
!973 was my first year of going to the Nebraska State Shoot. First hundred was singles. There was this old cowboy looking gent on the squad with me that hundred. I had no idea who the gentleman was. We both broke 99's as I recall. Well it was John Storm. That day I was informed after inquiring to whom this person was and learned of his shooting talent. From that day forth he remembered me as well.
John, Iam sure your telling stories up there already and creating a few laughs. You will be missed down here but we will all meet again one day and fekindle the friendships and good times we shared.
May God be with you John Rest in peace. Our sport will never be the same without John's presence. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family in this time of need. Rooferbob. I will always treasure my Storm apparel.
Bob & Kim McConnell Hamilton Ohio.
I never knew or met John Storm -- I have now. This thread IS John Storm, and it has been a pleasure to meet you, Sir.
God's speed, friend....
Had the pleasure of meeting John but once. He impressed me as a gentleman and was a pleasure to talk with. May he Rest in Peace & my condolences to his family. Jack Donovan
Yesterday I said my final good-bye to my dearest friend, my closest confidant and the love of my life, John V. Storm. I know our friendship confused most everyone, but he never let it bother him and never felt the need to explain it. He was my mentor, teaching me everything about long guns and pistols both, about reloading, about classics and how to appreciate engraving. I could spend 10 minutes with him anywhere, doing anything, and come away with new knowledge that was worth having. He was a person that at 75 still had such a passion for the plight of the less fortunate that a discussion of politics and health care could bring tears to his eyes. Many people saw that black hat and heard that scruff voice but didn’t realize he had a heart of gold behind it. He was always willing to help others that were less fortunate than he or in need because of bad luck. When John got his first small, fluffy black dog, Barki, lots of people thought, “what an odd combination!” but there was nothing that John loved more than his dogs and spoiling them rotten and taking them absolutely everywhere he went.
I was so very blessed to have John in my life for so many years. The places I was able to see, the people I was able to meet, the trap shooting friends I have been able to make! The life lessons that he taught me every single day, often through the business, about how to treat others, and how it will come back to you ten fold. That everyone deserves respect. Yes, I have regrets, but not things that were not said. John and I told each other every day how much we meant to each other. I regret that I couldn’t have worked less and traveled with him more. That he didn’t get to Jackson one more time.
Don’t ever fool yourself that you are guaranteed a tomorrow. In the blink of an eye, things can be changed forever and as much as you pray, you can’t go back in time. I am so deeply saddened by Johns pointless death and I’m terrified of how I’m going to go on without his guiding me, teaching me and making me laugh every single day. I will miss him every day of my life and my heart will cry for him until the day we meet again in heaven. Of all the lessons, experiences and gifts John gave me, the greatest by far was how to give and receive unconditional love. At one time he had called me a rookie, but even he had to eventually admit I became a pro at it, thanks to him.
I love you John. Thank you for making my life what it’s been. RIP Beverly
I also wanted to say a very special thank you to all the vendors that have been so helpful to John, especially over the past couple years, putting his tent up and down and carrying his coats. He really appreciated it, and so did I. Thank you!!!
Ed Grubs, you're right, he might be shooting in heaven but if God doesn't have engraved guns I bet he's grumbling! If anyone has a chicken farm and feels compelled to donate to his dogs chicken diet, I'm not too proud to take donations! Those dogs are NOT underweight!
Thank you everyone for your kind words of sympathy and support. It feels so good to hear such nice things about John. Thanks.
Beverly, Is it to soon to tell me what did happen? I have heard a story but I can not believe it. Trevor Dawe.
Beverly, you touched my soul and reading your words, again with tears rolling down my cheeks, I can only say since I have been through a huge loss, that it doesn't go away, you simply have to learn to live with it and do the best you can in this life for John - that would make him happy in heaven until you meet again. John Storm, the greatest of the great and as with every successful man on this earth, a woman stands behind him and that, Beverly, was you. R.I.P. John Storm and ride through the storm clouds until you once again see the sun Beverly.
Sincerely, Janet Fritch, Ohio
At the urging of my therapist and in the interest of preventing too many rumors, I'll give some insight into the accident, but not into Johns injuries out of respect for his family. John and I had left the high school trap shoot championships headed for home when he felt the mirror in his drivers side rear view mirror was loose.
He pulled over at a fairly desolate exit and I got out to adjust the mirror for him. When he said it was right I started tightening it, but he was impatient and came out to help tighten the other side.
For some reason the motor home went into gear and started moving towards us. I yelled at him the motor home was moving but just that fast it knocked us both to the ground.I don't know how I managed to get out of the way of the tires, I can't remember, but John wasn't so lucky. With the motor home still moving, he had the presence of mind to yell at me to put it in reverse, which I did.
An ambulance did arrive which took him to York where the medivac picked him up and flew him to Lincoln. He was conscious and composed and brave the whole time.
I'm sure he would want me to remind everyone, you never know when you or your loved ones last day may be, so live each one like it is your last, and treat each other like you may never see them again. Beverly
Thanks Beverly, Trevor Dawe.
RIP John,May God grant his family peace. Joe
I never met John but have shot in one of his shooting coats for years. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family. Dale
Condolances to the Storm Family and John's many friends from your friends in Arizona ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Very sad indeed! My prayers go out to the family! May God Comfort them in their time of sorrow and loss!
Was at the Nebraska State Shoot the last couple of days, just not right John not being there, big empty spot where his motorhome should be, big empty spot in a lot of peoples hearts too, John will not be forgotten.
My condolences,
I didn't know the man personally but I have a shooting jacket he made & and it's the best. The shooting world will miss him.
