Are you advertising a "PIGEON" grade M12?
Not a pigeon with a simmons rib.
Winchester offered a pigeon grade with a plain barrel.
No pictures no sale. We need pictures of the Simmons logo, closeups of the breech bolt and carrier. An original vent rib gun in that serial number range would be a three pin duckbill rib.
Up for a pig in a poke, or should I say, a piggyjon in a yotesack. Who the F???? knows. Space control to Major Tom, Over, ping ping ping.

From the pictures it looks to have been a Three pin receiver with the winchester rib extension removed and a Simmons installed in its place. Who knows about the fuzzy pigeon picture. The barrel has a standard Simmons mail order rib, maybe a previous owner damaged the origional barrel and sent it to simmons for replacement. The sand blast and blue job looks like standard Simmons too. Someone has repaced the pin in the rib recently. A nice looking shooter with great wood.
Maybe that is a duck on the magazine tube, instead of a piegeon. LOL. Just kidding.
According to the records that I have #1929590 was manufactured in '63. It was probably assemblied from the remaining extra parts on the selves before the "Y" models came out in '64. I know this because in have one.
MW58, I had a P-grade with the first four #'s being 1969xxx. Now I know the gun wasn't a Y model. But wouldn't the serial# denote a manufacture in 1969? Jim
XRINGJIM, you can google "Winchester Model 12 serial numbers" and it says in 1963 serial #1,909,598 through #1,964,384 (total of 54,794)were manufactured that year. We all know that in 1964 the "Y" models came out. MW
Simmons offered m12s in field ,duck, trap, skeet and p grade with winchester ribs or their own simmons ribs.They were a large distributor and many dealers got their winchesters from them. Many a shooter ordered a new model 12 from their and got and got a gun with a simmons rib. I think simmons offered a little more discount on the guns with their rib, although in their catalog the price was the same.
Winchester also made the sp from 64 t0 72 and then the y model came out. I don't think the y came out in 64.

The wood on the gun pictured definitely has the factoy checkering pattern of the pigeon grade. Super Pigeon grade guns built from 1964 to 1971 had a Y preceding the serial number which started with the numbers 19????? and were made with the remaining milled receivers. When Winchester reintoduced the model 12 with cast receivers in 1972 the serial numbers started at 2000000.

Well, Winchester must have had a few of these P-guns fall through the cracks as far as the numbers went. I KNOW for a fact that the P-grade my dad had was ordered special and was numbered 1969824.
