If you're shooting in doubles and you miss the first bird...

Are you ALLOWED to take your second shot at the first bird?

Do you WANT to shoot at the same bird again?

Or do you swing and shoot at the second bird?

You always shoot at the left bird first, right?

ATA Rules, Section VII, C, 6: A target is lost "When a contestant deliberately fires at the same target twice in Doubles Events." So, no, you can't shoot twice at the same target.

Most shoot the outgoer first and the angle target second--the right target first on stations 1 and 2, the left first on 3 and 4, shooter's choice on 3. However, you're free to shoot them in any order you want.

Posts 1 & 2 shoot right then left

Post 3 shoot right then left for a righty (easier to stay in gun becuase you are bringing it into your body as opposed to pushing it away if you shoot left then right.

Post 4 & 5 shoot left then right

Shot shoot the 1st with a light 7/8 (low/no recoil), watch is break, then swing through 2nd and pull trigger. You got plenty of time!! Break the 1st target then go get the 2nd.

I don't think the good doubles shooters bother to look at the first bird. I think they "point shoot" and go on and find out later as the dead and losses are called.
