Different opinions are what make this site so enjoyable. They say that opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one and they all stink. The common ground we have is that we all take part in a sport we enjoy, registered or practice. We may not like what the other has to say but all of us should really think about what the other is trying to convey. Halfmile and I have gone a few rounds on the political circuit, but when all is said and done I try to see things from his perspective. If he does the same, I don't know. If he doesn't then thats his loss. I do agree that if an opinion isn't the norm too many people are ready to jump all over someone and start the mudslinging. It is simply human nature to complain. Negativity is peoples worst enemy. I belong to a Banjo forum and we have the same thing. I don't think calling them stupid is correct. They may look at you and I as being stupid. I prefer to use the term "different" Yes it does get worse when the registered shooting stops? Does that tell you something? I don't know if there is a correlation or not but registered shooting appears to have a lot of bitchers. All the clubs I belong to have a bithcher or even two but not a lot of the folks are bitchers. Registered shooting sure has it's share of them

I don't think there are idiots here. I do notice an abundance of new shooters, young shooters, ignorant shooters, controversial folks and those striving for attention by casting and trolling. I see this to be a product of poor manners, an improper upbringing and not being introduced to the shooting world by their fathers like a lot of us were. There are many today who have never had anything to do with shooting and then all of a sudden they get a taste one way or another. In a matter of days and numerous trips to Google, they know everything, have done everything, readily give advice and are quick to argue.

Bad manners on various sites can be controlled, but the majority wouldn't like it if they had to pay to participate and had to post their real names, addresses and phone numbers. Some sites control bad manners in other ways, with monitors and whatnot, but that too has problems.

I like this site the way it is. I don't like the troublesome few who lurk here, but I don't have to read their dribble.

Threads like this make the whole forum worthwhile. We can't debate 7 1/2s vs 8s but so many ways.

Would I rather have some of these debates face-to-face? I'm not too sure. Since I've been posting here I've had one guy threaten to beat me up, and his friend confirmed that he could beat me up ("If you'd ever seen him..."). I participated in another thread which extolled the virtues of a top shooter who threatened to shoot the foot off a fellow squad member is he kept fidgeting. Some posters said something like, "if you knew him, he would have done it, too."

I swear I wouldn't shoot with some of you guys without my Slim Hawg in my wasteband!

And yet, I've learned so much more about guns and shooting, and maybe life, from the geniuses and idiots on this site. I have yet to have a question that I didn't get help on.

Setterman, without the "idiots' that you refer to in your post this site may not be as intresting as it is to visit! I visit here most days and find it not only educational,but entertaining as well.I've made a few friends here that I enjoy being in contact with. Everyone has different ideas and should be able to express them with out being called on it. I think the idea of handicap by smaller gauge has some merit. Ever tried shooting a 28 or a .410; it can be a lot of fun. I think it could make the whole game more interesting. As for what defines a trap shooter for my money it's someone that shoots the game. Shooting registerd targets or just going to the club and shooting has no bearing on a persons status as a "Trap Shooter" I think everyone that shoots the discpline shoots for enjoyment, Let's all enjoy the sport for what we each get out of it.
