Hope this is not too dumb a question, but what does "RUM" mean? I do own a couple of Sakos, and I should know, but must have a hole in my data base of basic information.

RUM--- Remington Ultra Magnum... Just a suped up version of the regular old 7mm mag.

Thanks...is that cartridge, the RUM, a Sako or Lapua design, or a classic Ackley style round? Sounds impressive.
It is a Remington design they make 7mm, 300, 338 and 375 Versions of the Ultra mag as the owner of a 7mm it is one of the flattest shooting cartridges out there, with a 140 gr Nosler ballistic tip and 94.5 gr of H1000 powder alomnst 3500 fps and 2.5" hi at 100 yards is still about .75" high at 300 yards I love mine and it is just a remington BDL with a after market muzzle break and trigger job. this Sako would be an amazing rifle wish I had the Money I would add it to my collection

I dediced to buy this caliber becasue of the baslitics table but when I really put it on paper i saw what it could do i was amazed it has killed one dear at 80 yards with one shot deer never moved after hit

Got back to this thread; very impressive. I'd imagine: Zero in the gun and then don't shoot it much! I'd assume that it could be hard on barrels. Wow, what a beauty.
It's not bad on barrels. I have a 7mm STW that after about 3000 rounds I had to rebarrel it, it burnt it up, little too much powder and not enough hole in the barrel for it.
