I am throwing down the gauntlet and challenging all you mainland shooter's to be at the 2010 Hawaii State P.I.T.A. Shoot being held February 10 - 15, 2010 at the BIG ISLAND TRAP CLUB @ HILO.
Aloha,
President of the Big Island Trap Club @ Hilo,Garrett Zane, email zsportsg@yahoo.com,has given me the OK to push this shoot to the max so that we could have a full shoot of 75 shooter's so let's stop sitting on our hands and give a hand to this club through a vacation that you'll never forget.
Last year 2009, I didn't win a thing other than the best Hawaiian attire in the Aloha Handicap but a lot of trophies made their way to BC, the attendance was OK for a good shoot but it was not good enough so I'm starting early again and you will have NO EXCUSES like I heard in previous years so organize your next trip or first trip to the Big Island now and I will give you every assistance I can and if your Canadian I'll even organize your permit to import, Form6NIA that all Canadians require.
This years results are posted on http://www.shootpita.com and click on shoot results then 2009 Hawaii State Shoot, you can see that us Canadians did OK and most all 10 and their spouses will be back next year. Also I met some great friends old and new.
There were a few people that said they would be there that were NO SHOW,,,,what's with that......
Feel free to leave a yes you will attend, or comments if you have to and I will answer all emails sent to me.
OKAY, THE CHALLENGE IS IN, ARE YOU IN?????
ALOHA & MAHALO
Reginald T. Todd Sr. (also known as) PAPPA
Question from a shooter....by email,
I would love to attend, but there are several question,,,Guns: should we bring our gun, or yours,,,ammo?,,,Lodging,,,
Answer,
The Big Island Trap Club is located right behind the airport in Hilo right off Leilani St.
You have to bring your own guns and you may purchase the ammo at the club but it is not compulsary if you have other means as long as the shells conform with the P.I.T.A. rules.
The best way to look at all this is to go to http://www.shootpita.com and click on registered clubs then on Hawaii and you will see the webpage for the Big Island Trap Club @ Hilo and if you search the site by clicking on the various titles like registrations and hotels and other things from this years shoot you will find all the answers you are looking for.
As for lodging, there are a lot or rental houses located in the Hilo and Pahoa areas. Thats the way our group goes and we have had the same house every year and enjoy it. Hope this helps and hope to see you there in Feb. 2010.
Reginald T. Todd Sr. (also known as) PAPPA
If the URL above doesn't work then just type in the P.I.T.A. website http://www.shootpita.com Then click on Registered clubs then Hawaii and that will put you on the Big Island Trap Club @ Hilo.
Shoot schedule....
Feb. 10/09 Practice & Registration starts at 08:00,along with the Kim Chee shoot.
Feb. 11/09 Aloha Handicap
Feb. 12/09 Kona Singles, Puna Handicap
Feb. 13/09 Hilo Handicap, Kohala Doubles
Feb. 14/09 200 Hawaii Singles
Feb. 15/09 Hawaii Doubles, Hawaii Handicap
And there you have it.
Reg. Todd, East Sooke, BC
A bit of additional info:
A total of 900 registered targets which can be cross registered with ATA. The 900 target includes the preliminary handicap event on the 11th which is not part of the HOA.
An official program will be mailed to each shooter registered for the 2010 HPITA. Shoot program will be mailed in October or November 2009.
Garrett Zane of Z Sports will again store and deliver your shotgun daily to and from the range. Contact him at, phone # is 808-935-6111 or email is zsportsg@yahoo.com.
This year’s awards banquet will be Hawaiian casual dress and held the evening of February Sunday the 14th at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel or at an outdoor pavillion somewhat the same as the pot luck. The Hilo Hawaiian has usually given us a special group rate of $90.00 plus tax per night. Be sure to mention the PITA State Shoot, when you phone or email the hotel.
We are also planning to have the very popular potluck dinner on Friday and is held at the pavillion in the King Kamehameha Park.

This is a page that I have made up to inform you of the 2010 Hawaii P.I.T.A. State shoot that will be held starting with the fun Handicap with a prise for the best Hawaiian attire February 11, and running to February 15,
BIG ISLAND TRAP CLUB President Garrett Zane zsportsg@yahoo.com
For more info: Canada contact Reginald T. Todd Sr. Email toddrf@shaw.ca and lets get started for the 2010 PITA Hawaii State shoot.
REMEMBER…This is President’s day weekend in the States and car rentals and hotel reservations are a premium so book early or miss out although we had no trouble in 2009
The club holds its shooting events at the Hawaii County Trap & Skeet Range located in Hilo, Hawaii. This is a public facility under the administration of the Hawaii County Parks & Recreation Department. Normal hours of operation for the range are: Wednesdays 12-4PM, Saturdays & Sundays 9AM-4:30PM. When a gun club schedules an event at the range the County adjusts days and hours of operation to accommodate the shooting event. BITC holds registered shoots on the second Sunday of every month.
Since this is Hawaii and the temperature averages 80 degrees, shooters are accommodated with picnic benches under open air pavilions. Restrooms are available and are handicap accessible. The range is used by other gun clubs, skeet and bird hunters, and one of the four traps is configured to support skeet shooting.
Gun clubs sponsoring events take responsibility for selling ammunition to shooters who need it. Shooters can ensure their brand is available by ordering in advance or purchasing whatever is on hand at registration. Unless one of the clubs is throwing a barbecue, food is not available at the range with the exception of the Hambergers and hot dogs done by the Hilo High JROTC. However, the range is located within 10 minutes driving of several restaurants.
CLUB PRESIDENT: Garrett Zane zsportsg@yahoo.com

If you go, I guarantee you won’t be disappointed as the Big Island has a lot to see and be amazed at.

Thanks for looking....

ALOHA,
Here are a few questions and answered ones that I received... Anyway, a few questions:
1. I'm not in PITA. Only ATA. Would I need to join PITA? The website said something about cross registered. How would that work for me?
2. How nice is the Hilo Hawaiian hotel? Reviews on the internet call it a little outdated, plus complaints they charge for internet. Are there other hotels? http://www.expedia.ca/pub/agent.dll/qscr=dspv/nojs=1/htid=7436/crti=7/hotel-reviews here is a rundown of reviews for the Hilo Hawaiian.
3. Is there enough sightseeing and activities on the big island to keep us busy for a week? Beaches? I'd really probably only be able to get away for one day of shooting and still keep my marriage intact. She's not a trap shooter.
4. Enlighten me as to the procedure for getting my gun over to Hawai'i and the bit about "Z Sports will store and deliver your shotgun daily to and from the range." I assume this is some special Hawaiian law that you have to work within. Just looking for how this works.
5. I assume the rule that "...you must purchase the ammo at the club…" is also some special Hawaiian law one must work within. How does this work. Can they get any brand, or is it limited. How are the ammo prices? Is there a minimum order price?
Answer...No you don't have to buy their ammo if you have other souces as long as the shells conform with P.I.T.A. rules. BUT..buying from the club has proved to be the easiest.
6. I don't have any Hawaiian shooting shirts. Do you think they'd still let me shoot?
Question #1, Yes you will have to join the P.I.T.A. at $10.00 (being a 1st time joiner) and if you want your targets cross registered with the ATA (not compulsory) then that costs more.
#2, the Nanaloa hotel is right beside the Hilo Hawaiian but is a little older but they have done a reno since I stayed there 4 years ago. there are a few other but realize that it is the Presidents Day weekend and hotels are at a premium.
#3, the shoot is 5 days long but with a 14 day vacation there are lots to see.
#4, & 5 are answered below.
#6, you have made the same mistake that everyone else makes when talking about Hawaiian shirts as they are tourists shirts sold by Hawaiian's...lol cause the Hawaiian's dress the same as us unless you are talking traditional in which case...how are you at wearing a dress (as we call it) Ladies Grass...Men..Lava-Lava or Lapa, which I wore this year and won best dressed Hawaiian Attire.
http://www.shootpita.com/clubs/bitc/index.htm this site has all the forms for 2009 and has yet to be updated for 2010 but will be at some later date.
http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov/cam3/ webcam at Hale Mau' Mau' in Kilauea caldera.
http://www.bigislandvacationrentals.com/ this and following title are vacation rentals....
http://www.hpvacationrentals.com/MakaiHale.html
http://www.CastleResorts.com don't know if clicking on this title will work but it's for the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel.
Here are a couple of sites to look over and as far as entertainment goes...I have been there 4 times and have yet to see it all... Our group rents a house for the 14 days ,(this is the best way to go) and we fly into Kona and rent a car at the airport and drive to Pahoa, where the house is and then to the trap club that is 35 minutes away. This is the best way to go if you can put a group together to split the cost.
My wife doesn't shoot either but shops a lot.
It is "not" the law that Garrett Zane has to transport your guns but is offered at a cost of $25.00 so you don't have to lug them back to your lodging each day. It is "not" the law that you must buy your ammo from the club but has been the easiest and they are available through a local supermarket called J Hara. the club has brought in Remington's, Federal, Dianna, and Winchester but has been different shells from year to year at a cost of $70.00 - $80.00 US per flat. You will require 4 flats to do the entire shoot with 100 rounds left for practice and shoot-offs.
It "is the law" to "register" your guns at the "police station" within 3 days of landing in Hawaii and this covers you if you have an accident or get pulled over and they find guns in the car. It's always best to cover all bases.
Like I said this will be my 5th time at the State shoot and would love to see 20 more "new shooters" from the mainland and our regular 55 other shooters to make up 75 registered shooter's so pass on to all your shooting buddies.
One thing I have to add because I think I'm funny is when you walk through the Thurston Lava Tube you and your Mrs. will say...YOUR NOT IN KANSAS ANYMORE TOTO.
Hope this helps and feel free to contact me anytime.

If I show up at the shoot with my own shells will I be denied paticipation? Elton Miyagawa
Thanks for the reply,
No Elton, you would not be denied and you are welcome to bring your own shells as long as they conform to P.I.T.A. rules.
Hope to see you there.
Aloha & Mahalo, Reg. Todd
Aloha,

Reg. Todd
What is the address for the club?
Auctioneer,
it has been posted in the website address box 4 times now so please click on it and check it out......
Reg. Todd
Toddy, a PO BOX is not an address. The other address is to someones home. What is the name of the street and the number of the building? I would like to look it up on Earth Google.
Auctioneer,
I don't have a street # but to google earth it just type in Leilani St.,Hilo Hawaii and it will take you behind the airport to the gun club....
It's at the end of Leilani in the county recycle place....as the map on the webpage shows you.
You have to enter the dump and follow "rubbish dump rd." and then left turn into trap club.
Hope this helps...
R.T.

Hey Toddy,
Good luck out there in beautiful Hilo. Have a Sumo burger for us! SUMO! I would say stay dry, but that is impossible there. Just have a fantastic time and drag some of that warmth this way when you return. Say hi to Murray, Karla, "Sparky" (Ray) and Darrel for us and their significant others. What a great bunch of peaple!
Perhaps Murray will put Mr. Webber on the back burner this year. We will miss the warm weather, turquoise sea, the birds singing all night and the gentle breezes! What a fantastic shoot! Just too soon to travel yet! Take care my friend and...
Good Luck! Mark and Sally Stevens aka: Primedust and CalamitySJ
Mahalo Mark and Sally and you take it easy and get back to 100% and yes I will have a Sumo burger at least once as I think this will be my last year there.
I know that Darrel Webber will not be there but my whole squad will be.
Hope to come your way next year on my way to the east coast if all goes well.
Reg. T.,BC
3 more days and I'm outa here....
East Sooke, BC
1 more day
Hey Toddy,
One year ago today Sally and I loaded up the guns and took off for Hilo for the State shoot. Honeymooned on the ocean. Walked on the beach, played with the sea turtles and lived it up!. I will miss it! Shoot straight, Take care my friend! Say hi to Garret for us!
Mark
I will for sure Mark and you take care, I will know if I'm thinking of you guys there if I start looking for Sally's gold earring she lost last year.......
Reg. Todd
Well here I am 3 days upon the big island and only 5 more days until the opening Registration and practice with the Kim Chee shoot.
The house we rented turned out to be more than expected as we watch the humpback whales breeching the water and also the large green sea turtles right from our lanai and the crashing of the waves on the beach in the back of the house is actually relaxing.
Hope to see some of you this Sunday at the Multiplex shoot in Hilo.....
Reg. Todd.
Aloha from Hawaii,
The Multiplex shoot is history and posted already and tomorrow starts the practice and Kim Chee shoot.
If your not here then that's your loss....
Sunrize is in action right now and what a glorious sunrize it is with a cruise ship entering Hilo off in the distance all lit up.
I expect the whales to be by any minute now as they seem to be on a schedule also as we see them the same times each day, if I didn't know any better I would think this was Disneyland and it was all staged.
Well take care and I will probably post more as we go on.
Mahalo for looking.
Reg. Todd (here on the big island, known as Reggie, the locals make me feel so young and welcome)
Aloha,
WELL Tomorrow starts the actual state shoot and today was the Hilo Handicap which yours truly won and moved back another yard and the Kohala Doubles which I won my class.
Good day for me and looking forward to the 200 Championship Singles tomorrow
I am having a great shoot and meeting some great new friends....too bad you have to read this and are not part of it...but think about next year and make this your priority to have fun and a vacation to boot....
Mahalo for looking...
Reginald T Todd Sr., East Sooke, BC
any results posted anywhere? Been trying to find them with no luck. How has Zack Keller been shooting so we can compare with what he tells us when he gets back........LOL
Reg:
You're not still winning with that old Berreta Mark II SBT, are you? That thing is almost 40 years old and can't possibly have more than another half-million rounds left in it!
I've still got the one you advised me about a couple years ago. It's half M1A1 Tank, and half Stradivarius. Best gun per dollar I ever bought.
Good luck, my friend.
Gary
Hi Gary,
I am ashamed to admit this but I sold My Beretta Mark II to a guy that has worked on it with refinishing the stock and reblueing it looks like a brand new gun.
The reason I sold is because I bought a new Cinergy combo and needed fast money.....
I'm just getting used to the Cinergy and here in Hawaii I won the Hilo Handicap and moved back to the 26 yd line and won my class in doubles but have not done anything in Singles....
Tomorrow is the Championship Doubles and Handicap and I hope I can do ok.,
Take care and hope to see you at the Provincials in May.
Reg. T.,ES,BC back home on the 18th.
Coyote,
I don't have any results for Zack but I do know that he shot 98 in Singles and had to shoot-off with Krista Morgan and Zack lost by 1 target and was not happy when told "beat by a girl". I expect all the results will be posted on the P.I.T.A. WEBSITE AS SOON AS IT IS ALL OVER.
I can tell you that us Canucks are doing ok with Ron Stubbings shooting 200X200 winning the Hawaii State Championship Singles and taking home 4 trophies himself and I took 2 and Krista Morgan (my daughter) got 2 and Rick Morgan 1 and Cliff Tarnowski got 1.
We're not as many as last year but we also had more shooter's from Canada last year and took home more than our share but there is still 2 more events to go tomorrow and you never know.
I'll tell Zack you were asking about him.....
Reg. Todd,
Reg! What?!! You absolutely did NOT abandon your sacred Beretta Mark II and start snuggling up with a Cynergy!! What are you -- Tiger Woods? You know you ended up running right back to her the last time your wandering eye got the best of you!
My Mark II GURU not owning a Mark II? That is simply unthinkable!
I know there are four stages of grief, but in this case I choose to remain in the denial stage forever!
Good luck with the Doubles and Handicap, and please stop torturing me with sick jokes like this.
-Gary
Well Gary My Friend, alas but it is true and thanks for making my morning a happy 1 with the reply.
I'm off to the BITC@H with a bit of a twisted nose as I didn't win the best dressed Hawaiian attire but I guess I'll get over it in a few years....
Catch you later Gary...
Reg. Todd.
All right, Reg -- I survived finding out there's no Santa Claus, and discovering what went on when my parents' bedroom door was closed, so I guess I'll get over the shock of this. I hope your Cynergy serves you as well as the old girl did.
Best of luck always, my friend :)
-Gary
Coyote,
Zack Keller today, the last day of the shoot, won his B Class in Doubles...
Gary, I won Veteran category in the Doubles today and us Canucks took home 23 Trophies, including HOA, HAA. Champion, runner up and Handicap Champion and runner-up and many classes and categories.
I'm hoping the results will be posted on the shoot results on the P.I.T.A. website as soon as the cashier sends them in....
Was a great shoot and hope to get started on next year so I'll close with what I said when I started advertising this shoot 6 years ago....if you snooze...you lose
So be warned..I will post the 2011 challenge as soon as I come down from this lifetime high.
Reg. Todd
I was told by the Cathy the cashier that the results would be posted electronically when she reaches home in Idaho in the next few days....
Reg. T.
HILO HEAT SIZZLES STUBBINGS’ CANADIAN BACON AT HAWAII PITA CHAMIONSHIP
Beautiful vistas, warm tropical breezes and a lush jungle setting greet the visitors at Hilo for the Hawaii PITA Championships held over the Presidents Day weekend each February. The tournament is held at the Hawaii County Trap and Skeet Range. The event is co-hosted by the Hawaii PITA Board and the Big Island Trap Club.
The ALOHA spirit prevails throughout beginning on Wednesday with a 50-50-50 practice event, the Kim Chee Special. Thursday is the Aloha Handicap where Hawaiian attire is preferred and rewarded. This year’s target winner was Cliff Tarnowski (89) and costume winner, Kathy Connerley (a grass skirt and two coconuts).
There are two events each subsequent day allowing time for sightseeing and other fun activities. Friday events were the Kona Singles: Champion, Ron Stubbings (99) and Puna Handicap: Champion, Bob Roller (88). Saturday events were the Hilo Handicap: Champion, Reggie Todd (89) and Kohala Doubles: Champion, Ron Stubbings (97).
On Friday evening the HPITA Board and Big Island Trap Club hosted a BBQ Potluck for all the shooters and their families. This year was doubly memorable as the food was wonderful and the electricity was absent so the picnic area was intimately lighted by several camp lanterns and car headlights. What fun!
Championship events are held on Sunday and Monday. By definition the Resident Champions live in the state, however when the trophies were distributed, several flew home to different islands. Tom Kushima, the resident Doubles Champion (94) lives on Oahu; Jason Fujie, the resident Handicap (84) and High All Around Champion (356) lives on Lanai; and Garret Zane the resident Singles (196) and Andy Hallingstad the resident High Over All Champions live on the Big Island.
The five Championship trophies, including the Hawaiian war club, flew home to British Columbia. Ted Marson took the Handicap championship (91), and Ron Stubbings the Championship Singles (200), Doubles (99), High All Around (386) and High Over All (755).
