Brilliant, Ohio coal plant closes: guess why?
Well, your ability to guess why the Murray Energy Corporation today announced that it is closing a mine in Brilliant, Ohio will be largely dependent on whether you rely on local news or not. If you’re just paying attention to local news… you won’t be told at all why a coal mine that employed 239 people at its peak laid off 24 of its remaining 56 employees today, with the remaining to be (hopefully) integrated into the company elsewhere; in fact, you won’t even be told that the mine employed that many people directly. But if you go to the company’s own press release… yeah. That’s a different story.
Regulatory actions by President Barack Obama and his appointees and followers were cited as the entire reason. “Mr. Obama has already destroyed 83,000 megawatts of coal-fired electricity generation in America,” said Mr. Michael T. W. Carey, Vice President of Government Affairs for Murray Energy. “Electric prices in the recent PJM Interconnection monthly auction were bid up 800 percent (8 times) for 2015-2016 because of this,” he added.
“At its peak, OhioAmerican employed 239 local people in high-paying, well-benefited jobs,” said Mr. Stanley T. Piasecki, General Manager and Superintendent. “University studies show that our Mines can create up to eleven (11) secondary jobs in our communities, for store clerks, teachers, etc., to serve our direct employees. Thus, if one uses the eleven (11) to one (1) multiplier, the Obama Administration has destroyed 2,868 jobs in eastern Ohio with this forced Mine closure,” stated Mr. Piasecki.
Although, to be fair, the local news article did at least link to the press release; it also mentioned another set of layoffs (29) at Murray’s Powhatan No. 6 mine in Alledonia, OH. They just forgot to note that Murray Energy squarely laid the blame for that closure too on the Obama Administration’s War on Coal. And make no mistake: this administration hates coal.

Oh no!
Copy and paste this link in the web address Johnny.
I guess you can say that the spills create jobs too.
Good job Brian, you got both of our resident libs to respond. The Koolaide must be very strong for them to believe this closing and others are not the direct result of the Odumbass administration's EPA mandates. Wake-up boys, your man is about to go down in flames. Just look at Holder and what he's been doing. That guy needs to tried for treason, the whole administration needs to be tried for treason. Everything they have done has been outside of the constitutional authority. Now let's see what the socialists have to say about that.
What the socialists have to say is that Holder, Obama and the rest of the beltway (DOJ) is above all this and that, in regards to F&F, it was a case of BATF field directors hatching over-the-top operational plans that they couldn't keep in control, and who will now no doubt be burned, but it ends there. Will Congress let it happen this way? My money says yes. (aargh)
Murray Energy's strategy is to burn high sulfur coal. Can't do anything to hurt this planet, right?
Kevin Fleming , From what I have been able to find out, that is the way it happened. Search for "Project Gunrunner"
Johnny, take your blinders off! With what are you going to replace that coal, solar? Tell that to the people that depend on the coal fired electrical plants to provide them heat in the winter and air in the summer. Tell us with what will the Odumbass administration replace the coal. All this is going to do is drive-up the cost of electricity. If your weren't blind to your ideology you would see that.
We don't need coal, nuclear, gas or oil, we have solar, wind, and we can make fuel out of our food
That way we won't need near as much fuel because everybody will starve to death
Oh yeah it has to be raised organically we couldn't have any run off
Why are all liberal's brains broken?
Lets All Live Like the Indians (of India) Do, tra-la-la-la-la!
We don't need no stinking power!
Maybe the coal companies can set up exports to India. I hear tell India can use more power plants. I seem to recall hearing that they had MORE THE TWICE the population of the U.S. without any power a day or two ago and many of the "restored" power grids can only supply power to customers on a few hours a day basis. That is a great country to be in the business of selling and installing your own (usually that nice sweet smelling without ANY pollution controls, diesel) private generators.
Liberals???? Where's your answer??
There really is no point in telling a liberal to remove his blinders since they were born that way.
A coal fired power plant down the road here in SW Pa just closed due to new regulations.
Another is spending $700 million to come into compliance with those same regulations.
Soon we will have massive blackouts like India due to undersupply of electricity.
Can't say I have been following the coal issue, but does anyone know what year the EPA started requiring diesel engines to use EGR's and extra coolers, Particulate Filters and DEF in the engines to meet certain emissions standards?
I am trying to find a new Tier III Kubota SVL 90 or CAT 289C that doesn't have a particulate filter or has not been derated on the horsepower to meet emissions standards. Its getting hard to find them. One more added expense I can thank the EPA for and the politicians that allowed it to happen.
Obama said up-front that he basically wanted to run coal out of business, so nobody should be surprised.
Besides, this is nothing. Wait till you see what he does in his second term.
