What is the best powder to reload 410 bore shotshells? I am reloading Winchester HS hulls with 296 powder. When I load 16.0 grains of 296 and WAA410HS wads, I can't squeeze 1/2 ounce of shot in the hull. Is there a powder that will give me 1200fps but be less bulky than 296?

Bill

13.5 gr Accurate 4100, same amount of Hodgdon's Lil' Gun.

4100 is an under rated powder for the Wienie Gun. I use 13.5 gr of nearly identical Accurate #9 in AAHS hulls.

I load 15 grains of 296 and the chart shows it to be 1200 FPS and chrono's 1190 to 1210. AAHS hull cheddite primer WAAHS 410 wad and 296 powder and get many more reloads out of each hull than any other I had tried. I used Lil Gun for years but it burns the hull out. Jackie B.

Gents, I've had very good luck with Alliant 2400 for near 25 years now. 296 is a little finer and has given me a little problem migrating into the sliding bar and hanging it up. However, can't say bad things about either.

Another vote for Alliant 410. Great hull life and no bloopers. Bill

I load 15.3 grains of Hodgdon H110 (same as W296) in the Winchester HS hull with a Remington SP-410 wad. This load is close to 1200 fps.

Have you checked the weight of the shot? The 67 gauge is very picky. I have had to adjust the "volume" of shot to make good looking loads.

For what its worth from the NSSA rule book (flame away on ts.com....)

For argument sake #9 weighs .75 grains. The variance is 13 pellets. (I know magnum vs chilled.) (http://www.hallowellco.com/shot_size_chart.htm)

Hope this helps.
